Beats per second: Accuracy vs. reliability

What type of mechanical watch is the best?

High beat movements are capable of greater certifiable precision than movements with lower frequency.

They also have a smoother sweeping motion in the hands.

The drawback is they often need more regular servicing to maintain their high accuracy.

Movements built with lower frequency escapements are capable of going longer between services, experiencing a gradual decline in performance.

Though they come with the obvious hindrances in their certifiable accuracy and have a clunkier motion of the seconds hand.

In summary; for longer servicing periods, low-beat movements don’t require as much attentive care and will cost less over time.

For the very best quality movement, high-beat watches are an achievement in accuracy that are beautiful, though costly to maintain.
