The “Spirate system” is being implemented in the latest Speedmaster models and promises that the small details will be making a big impact.
The new design of hairspring is able to have the tension increased or decreased minutely.
This is precisely achieved by a flexible blade at the hairspring’s attachment to the balance.
The relationship between this blade and the tail extending to the other side of the balance is what determines the tension and therefore frequency of the balance wheel’s oscillation.
Their efforts have been worth it, as thanks to this innovation their new Speedmaster is certified to 0/+2 seconds per day.
